My Dog’s First Walk What Should I Know?

It is difficult to know how your dog will react the first time you take him for a walk. Maybe he’s afraid or running away without paying attention to you. For this, you must follow a series of tips to be able to enjoy, like me, the first walk of my dog.

What Should I Know Before my Dog’s First Walk?

What most unites you with your dog are the daily walks. They help strengthen the bond between you. In addition, it is part of the socialization and learning of your puppy.

The walk should become a routine, but a pleasant routine for both him and you. Easy, it’s a matter of time!

In addition, they pointed out that before starting the first walk of my dog, must have all the first mandatory vaccinations such as Parvovirus, hepatitis, distemper, rabies, leptospirosis, and parainfluenza. I must also have done a first deworming.

More or less, this whole process can take approximately three to four months of age for our little puppy. This way we will be able to prevent infections and diseases that our dog can catch on the street.

How to Accustom My Dog to the Leash?

Whenever my dog goes out, he must wear a leash, as it is mandatory. For this reason, before the first walk of my dog, it is essential to accustom him to wear the collar and leash at home. It is important that its smells it and that little by little it gets acquainted with it so that your first trip will be more pleasant. This will help him not to feel so restless since the first walk of your dog will be a great emotion for him.

Once accustomed, it is advisable that you take him to a place without distractions, so he learns to walk beside you, more or less at the height of your knee. If your dog comes forward, you must use the leash to force the dog to return to you.

As for the type of strap, for the first walks, it is advisable to start with a short that doesn’t exceed one meter long and better fixed than extendable.

If you see that your puppy, for example, bullterrier puppies is very restless, or pulls too much of the leash, you can opt for a harness. This will prevent the occurrence of tracheal damage, glaucoma or other health problems.

Positive Reinforcement is Important.

The first walk of my dog was very special for us. It is amongst the vital educational processes since its behavior in public will be one of the key factors in our life.

For this reason, it is important that little by little you correct your bad movements, which is if you pull a lot of the leash if you go ahead when you should not if you growl other dogs or people if you pee where you should not. All these keys your pet will learn day after day.

If you offer him a ball, his favorite food, a caress or something positive, the dog will understand that he is doing well and will repeat it correctly.

It is important that we always use a calm and friendly tone of voice, emphasizing the tones with positive reinforcement.
